Course Overview

The Energy Efficiency (Part L) training course has been made appropriate to the requirements of plumbers/ heating installers and gas engineers that need to self-certificate their work via one of the Competent Persons Schemes (CPS) and those that carryout work in new and existing dwellings whilst satisfying the requirements for compliance.

… anyone aged 19+, living in Wales and in employment. The usual salary limit of £35,796 does not apply to this course.

The training materials for this course include:

  • Approved Document L, Volume 1
  • CIBSE Domestic Heating Design Guide

The Energy Efficiency (Part L) is assessed by a short multi-choice theory examination including a heat loss and radiator sizing exercise.

This course is a one day course.

Applicants should be experienced installers of gas, oil, or solid fuel domestic central heating systems.

Evidence/confirmation of experience would be required.

This course is available as part of a Personal Learning Account (PLA). PLA is an initiative from the Welsh Government which offers people the chance to access free, part-time courses with flexible and convenient learning that fits around their existing lifestyle (subject to eligibility).

Certificates are normally valid for 5 years.

If completed outside of PLA, this course will cost £170 per candidate.
